Well, not my laptop, but another speaker I know who was speaking right after I finished in Brussels, Belgium. In just a short blink of an eye, my friend put his laptop bag down to visit with someone and when he went back to pick up his bag, it was gone! His passport, money, and yes, his laptop! I’ve been discussing HP Protect Tools for quite some time during my seminars, and how real estate agents can take the necessary measures to protect their data from hackers and thieves. According to LoJak’s web site, over 2 million laptop’s are stolen each year, making you a 1 in 10 chance of becoming the victim of computer theft.
One option from HP Protect tools is a subscription from www.LoJak.com, which puts what I like to describe a “poison pill” inside your computer that will shut it down remotely the minute a thief logs onto the Internet with your computer. With HP Protect Tools I can also encrypt my hard drive, and create other security measures for the maximum protection when I’m on WiFi networks and surfing the Web.
If you’re a business, large brokerage firm or REALTOR association and need a program for your members on ways to prevent identity theft, how to increase computer security measures and other ways to avoid personal data from being hacked, please contact me about one of my seminars. They’re always a “big” hit with members, and the most interesting point I find is that many of your agents are failing to keep their computers and personal information secure. For real estate professionals who are dealing with other clients personal information, that’s huge! I would love to offer a presentation for your group in 2011 and help them become more conscience about computer safety.
