Is Privacy Important to You?

I read a story from CNN yesterday about Privacy and the Internet, and found it quite interesting, “Some Google Employees Defect, then Rebel.”  It’s a fascinating story about how companies like Google, Facebook and others are gathering “so much” stuff about us when we surf the Web, without our knowledge.

What I found interesting is that one of the employees has developed a software plugin for Google Chrome, called “Disconnect.”  Disconnect allows you to approve or disapprove web sites that want to get personal information from you before you surf their site.  Remember, some of the information transmitted to sites like Facebook and Google do so WITHOUT your direct knowledge.  Yes, somewhere you checked a box and gave them permission, but hidden away in the fine print was their right to get the information, and then sell it to someone else.  Disconnect is a way to stop that.

I realize this can limit some of our, “surfing the Internet experiences,” however, I think it is good to know when and who wants to get this information.  Oh, by the way, it was developed by a former Google employee.

Help, My Laptop Was Stolen!

Well, not my laptop, but another speaker I know who was speaking right after I finished in Brussels, Belgium.  In just a short blink of an eye, my friend put his laptop bag down to visit with someone and when he went back to pick up his bag, it was gone!  His passport, money, and yes, his laptop!  I’ve been discussing HP Protect Tools for quite some time during my seminars, and how real estate agents can take the necessary measures to protect their data from hackers and thieves.  According to LoJak’s web site, over 2 million laptop’s are stolen each year, making you a 1 in 10 chance of becoming the victim of computer theft.

One option from HP Protect tools is a subscription from, which puts what I like to describe a “poison pill” inside your computer that will shut it down remotely the minute a thief logs onto the Internet with your computer.  With HP Protect Tools I can also encrypt my hard drive, and create other security measures for the maximum protection when I’m on WiFi networks and surfing the Web.

If you’re a business, large brokerage firm or REALTOR association and need a program for your members on ways to prevent identity theft, how to increase computer security measures and other ways to avoid personal data from being hacked, please contact me about one of my seminars.  They’re always a “big” hit with members, and the most interesting point I find is that many of your agents are failing to keep their computers and personal information secure.  For real estate professionals who are dealing with other clients personal information, that’s huge!  I would love to offer a presentation for your group in 2011 and help them become more conscience about computer safety.

Check out LoJak today for more information!

The HP Slate – Wow!

Although I do not own the HP Slate 500 as of this writing, I can say that I have had the opportunity to use the new HP device at the recent National Association of REALTORS convention, and on one other occasion.  To me, the HP Slate is setting the standard for tablet computing.  Compared to other tablets on the market, the HP Slate provides these added bonuses:

  • Dual Cameras
  • Windows 7 Operating Environment (run all your favorite Windows Programs, including Flash!)
  • USB Ports
  • And more…

In fact, here’s a list from the HP Web Site of exactly what the Slate offers:

  • Intel™ Atom Z540 Processor (1.86 GHz, 512 KB L2 cache, 533 MHz FSB)
  • Genuine Windows® 7 Professional 32 bit
  • 8.9-inch diagonal WSVGA HP Touchscreen (1024 x 600 or 1024 x 768 for some applications)
  • 2GB DDR2 667MHz on board memory
  • 64 GB Solid State Module (SSM)
  • VGA webcam (inward facing), 3MP camera (outward facing)
  • Integrated 802.11 b/g/n wireless LAN
  • HP Integrated Module with Bluetooth® Wireless Technology
  • HP 2-cell, 30 WHr polymer

As a real estate professional, you can use Windows Journal, which means you can sign contracts in the field, make notes on your MLS flyer’s, and yes, convert your handwriting to typed text.  There are many other features you can use your HP Slate for when working with customers and clients, such as showing slide shows of properties for sale, running videos, using Microsoft Power Point and more!

Priced at only $799.00, the HP Slate is the perfect companion to your HP Elite Book (my personal favorite Tablet Computing Device).  Now with the HP Slate you can be more productive, save time, and look professional to your customers and clients in the field.  All I can do is hope that Santa will deliver one to me for Christmas.  Yikes, there’s an eight week waiting time according to the HP Web site.  I sure hope Santa made arrangements for me!  🙂

How to Convert a PDF to Microsoft Word

One of my favorite web sites to use for converting PDF files to Microsoft Word Documents is  Most complex PDF files (not everything) can easily be converted into a Word format where you can edit, and save on your computer.  Here’s how it works:

    1. Go to
    2. Upload your PDF file you would like to convert into a Word document
    3. Choose the format you want to have your PDF converted into, i.e. RTF or DOC.  Most of the time you will want to choose the DOC format
    4. Add your e-mail, and press the convert button
    5. You will receive an e-mail confirming your desire for the PDF conversion, so select the authorize link in the e-mail
    6. Moments later you should receive an e-mail with your newly converted Word Document

It’s that easy, and it works GREAT!  Check it out today,

How to Set-Up a Drip Marketing E-Mail Campaign With Microsoft Outlook…

Here’s a solution to use Microsoft Outlook for your drip marketing campaigns with sellers and buyers.  It’s from, and it’s an add in for Microsoft Outlook that will allow you to set-up scheduled e-mails to a client, or a group of people.

Here’s what Sperry’s web site has to say about their product:

    • Sends emails on a regular basis
    • Send the message at daily, weekly, monthly or yearly intervals
    • Allows attaching files or even entire folders
    • View the entire list of pending emails at a glance

Eliminate tedious repetitive email chores…schedule an automatic email that will go out at intervals that you define. Perfect for sending reminder email about accounting meetings, baseball game practices, or even upcoming birthdays.

You can also send individual files or send an entire folder. When the email gets sent, all files in that folder at the time of the sending are selected as attachments and sent to whatever email address you specify. Unlike using outlook templates which grab the attachment at the time the email template is created, this add-in grabs the attachment at the time the email is sent so that if changes are occurring on a regular basis, the most recent copies will be picked up and delivered. This feature is useful if you don’t know the name of the files that you need to send ahead of time.

For instance, one customer worked in a 911 call center. A brief description of each call was written up and placed into a folder that was picked up once a week by our add-in, and sent to the local newspapers. The add-in saved time by allowing the 911 operator to simply update a single file!

Add the Schedule Recurring Email add-in to your cart by selecting “Add To Cart” button above.

Sounds like a good solution to me for real estate professionals who need to stay in touch with buyers and sellers on a regular basis.  Check it out, it’s only $29,95, and available from
